Oh, yeah, I'm pretty sure that should be possible. I have a custom column with serieses feeding into it, in a tags-style column (so I retain series name data to search by in cases where something has multiple series on it, because the actual series column only keeps the first one, which is often in such cases not the actual useful one), and I think that would be the same style.
If you make a custom column of 'tags' field type with lookup label as 'fandoms', adding this to your personal.ini settings (making sure you have the box ticked for personal.ini settings to override in the custom columns tab) (I have mine at the very end of personal.ini) should work, though I haven't tested it because you have to restart calibre to apply new column settings and I am feeling lazy right now:
You may also need to add the extravalidentries section to the beginning of the file, I can't remember if it's already there by default. You'll need, at minimum:
Near the top of your personal.ini, underneath [defaults].
Virtual libraries, which display as tabs across the top and can be set up as the contents of any search, may also be of use to you for organizing by fandom! I have a couple different fandom ones.
If this doesn't work, let me know and I can troubleshoot what I screwed up! But I'm pretty sure I got it right.
Note that this will only apply to newly downloaded or updated fics, it will not auto-populate from your extant fics. You can select to just update metadata on things with no new chapters, but it will take a while, and I think AO3 has instituted some new throttling, because I have things error out a lot if I try and download/update more than ten fics at a time unless I mix in some links from another site to pause querying AO3, even having increased the sleep duration between queries significantly.
